Knowledge Graph
What is the Knowledge Graph?
The Knowledge Graph is Google's knowledge base containing billions of facts about entities (people, companies, places, concepts) and the relationships between them. Introduced in 2012, the Knowledge Graph enables Google to understand not just keywords but real-world entities and their connections.
The most visible manifestation of the Knowledge Graph is Knowledge Panels — boxes on the right side of the SERP with information about a company, person, or topic.
Why does it matter?
- Knowledge Panels — a company present in the Knowledge Graph can display a panel with its logo, data, and reviews
- Disambiguation — Google unambiguously identifies your brand
- Entity SEO — presence in the Knowledge Graph strengthens entity authority
- AI and GEO — AI models use the Knowledge Graph to generate answers
- Voice search — assistants (Google Assistant, Siri) draw data from the Knowledge Graph
How to get into the Knowledge Graph?
- Google Business Profile — a verified profile with complete data
- Schema.org — Organization, Person, LocalBusiness with complete markup
- Wikipedia and Wikidata — for larger brands, a Wikidata entry is a strong signal
- Data consistency (NAP) — the same information on your website, in GBP, on LinkedIn, and in directories
- Mentions in authoritative sources — citations in media and industry portals
sameAsin Schema.org — linking to profiles on LinkedIn, GitHub, and social media
Best practices
- Complete structured data — Organization/Person with sameAs, knowsAbout, address
- Regular GBP updates — photos, posts, review responses
- Building citability — the more authoritative sources mention your brand, the stronger the signal
- Verification — check in Google Search Console whether your company is recognized as an entity
- Inter-entity relationships — connect people with companies, companies with services in Schema.org
