Be visible in AI search — ChatGPT, Gemini, Perplexity
Millions of people now search using AI instead of Google. Generative Engine Optimization gives your brand what those engines need before they can retrieve it at all: an entity they can resolve, schema they can parse, and answers short enough to lift verbatim. Whether a model cites you is the model's call — but it cannot cite what it cannot read.
What is GEO and why does it matter?
GEO (Generative Engine Optimization) is the practice of optimizing your online presence so that AI-powered search engines cite your brand in their responses. When someone asks ChatGPT "What is the best SEO agency in Poland?" or asks Perplexity about solutions in your industry — GEO determines whether your company appears in that answer.
Unlike traditional SEO, where you optimize for ranking positions, GEO focuses on citability — making your content the kind that AI models want to reference. This means expert-level content, structured data, unique data points, and authoritative sourcing that AI can trust and cite.
The shift to AI search is accelerating. ChatGPT has over 200 million weekly active users. Google's AI Overviews now appear for a growing share of search queries. Perplexity, Claude, and Microsoft Copilot are gaining adoption rapidly. Companies that optimize for AI search today will have a significant competitive advantage tomorrow.
How does GEO optimization work?
GEO optimization prepares a website so that AI engines — ChatGPT, Gemini, Perplexity, and Google AI Overviews — can find it, understand it correctly, and quote it in an answer. The work has three layers: an entity the model can resolve, content built from short answers that stand on their own, and technical access for AI crawlers.
The entity is how a model recognizes your company: what you do, which services you offer, and which other sources confirm it (Schema.org Organization, sameAs links, public registries). The content layer puts a question in the heading and a one- or two-sentence answer right under it, with the detail after — the same shape as this section. The access layer is a robots.txt that lets GPTBot, ClaudeBot, and PerplexityBot in, an llms.txt file, and pages that read without running JavaScript. Whether a model ends up quoting the page is the model's decision. GEO removes the obstacles that would keep it out of the answer entirely. In practice, the work runs in four steps:
GEO Readiness Audit
We check whether AI crawlers can access your site and how your structured data describes the company, and we review by hand how ChatGPT, Gemini, and Perplexity answer the key queries in your market: whether your brand appears, and in what context. We identify gaps and opportunities.
Content & Schema Optimization
We optimize existing content and create new expert-level content designed for AI citation. We implement advanced Schema.org markup to help AI understand your expertise.
Authority Building
We build your brand's citability through original research, data-driven content, expert authorship signals, and structured knowledge that AI models can reference.
Review & Iteration
We check by hand how AI engines answer your key queries, review traffic from AI-powered search, and refine the strategy based on what we find.
What GEO includes
AI Citation Optimization
We structure your content the way a generative engine reads it — atomic answers, explicit entities, clean headings — so ChatGPT, Gemini, and Perplexity have something to lift.
Structured Data & Schema
Advanced Schema.org markup that helps AI models understand your content, establish expertise, and accurately represent your business.
Content Authority Building
We create expert-level, data-driven content that AI models recognize as authoritative — case studies, original research, detailed guides, and industry analysis.
AI Answer Review
We check by hand how ChatGPT, Gemini, and Perplexity answer the key queries in your market and whether your brand appears in those answers.
How to choose a GEO agency
Choose a GEO agency by what it will actually change on your site and how honestly it reports results — not by its place on a "best agencies" list or a promise that ChatGPT will start naming your brand. A serious agency first checks whether AI models recognize your company as an entity at all, and only then proposes content.
Five things are worth comparing across proposals:
- A named scope of work. Entity data and Schema.org, content structured as short answers, access for AI crawlers. "AI optimization" with no list of tasks behind it gives you nothing to compare.
- GEO tied to SEO. AI engines that search the web pull pages from search indexes, so a site that is weak in SEO is usually weak in GEO too. An agency that treats the two separately is skipping half the job.
- An honest account of results. No agency decides what a model answers. A guaranteed citation by a set date is a red flag, and so is a report with a "citation count" that never explains where the number comes from.
- Local sources, not just your website. Models also recognize a company through what other sources say about it: business registries, industry directories, Wikidata, and press coverage. A consistent description in those places matters alongside the site itself.
- Proof on its own site. An agency that sells GEO should practice it: structured data, answers under question-style headings, and open access for AI crawlers. You can check that yourself in a few minutes.
At ARDURA Lab we start with a free SEO audit that includes a GEO readiness review and a comparison with 3–5 competitors. We check AI answers to your key queries by hand and describe what we find — without a citation count, because that is not something we measure.
