Redirect 301
What is a 301 redirect?
A 301 redirect is a permanent HTTP redirect that tells browsers and search engines that a page has permanently moved to a new URL. The browser automatically redirects the user to the new address.
When to use a 301 redirect?
When changing URL structures, migrating domains, merging duplicate content, or removing pages. A 301 redirect passes approximately 90-99% of "link juice" (SEO authority) to the new URL, so you do not lose your earned rankings.
Redirect 301 vs 302
301 = permanent redirect — Google indexes the new URL. 302 = temporary redirect — Google continues to index the old URL. Use 301 for permanent changes, and 302 only for truly temporary ones (e.g., an A/B test).
